Portfolio: Cornell Senior Project . Halo Lighting 1999

  Ambient Information
Even in 1999, as a design student at Cornell, I was exploring ways that design and technology could influence human behavior. In this competition project for Halo Lighting, I investigated how light could be used as an ambient communication device to convey information.

Though I had not yet heard of Ambient Information, I was thinking about how sensors could be used to communicate relevant information to users of a space. The squiggly blue line on the wall of the conference room displays the volume level of the meeting taking place inside, allowing passersby to see at a glance if the space is occupied without disturbing the meeting’s participants.
